- Mother died 23 August 1908, when Lewis (known as "Jack") was only nine years old
- Was sent to school in England only two weeks after his mother's death in September 1908
- Began private study with a family friend, Mr. William Thomas Kirkpatrick, as a tutor 19 September 1914
- Fought in WWI in France November 1917 until wounded in April 1918
- The Inklings, a group of writers of which Jack was a part of, was formed in 1930
- Was converted to Christianity 28 September 1931
- Housed evacuated schoolgirls during WWII for a few years beginning 1939
- Married Joy Gresham 23 April 1956
- Wife died of cancer 13 July 1960
- Died 22 November 1963, the same day as Kennedy's Assassination
